Cover Letter

I have recently graduated from the Arts and Sciences College at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL) on December 21st 2013. I attended for three and a half years before completion with a Computer Science Major and a Math Minor. In my time at UNL I challenged myself on a regular basis. First, even before college, I took a lot of college level courses in high school (Central Community College or AP certified courses). I excelled in Math and computer technologies including, but not limited to, C++, C# and CISCO Networking. During school I kept a steady job at Best Buy as an Advanced Repair Agent with the Geek Squad, repairing corrupted file systems, replacing parts, and removing infections. I even built some automated scripts to do these things for me. After my freshman year I stayed in Lincoln, NE and picked up an IT internship with the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects. The majority of my time was spent maintaining and optimizing their FileMaker database. In the fall of my third year I joined a team in the Local ACM programming contest. Our main programming language was Java. We placed second in Lincoln and the surrounding area and qualified for the regional competition. We made a fine attempt but did not qualify for the international contest. As a third year senior, I sought out many project based classes such as Software Engineering, File and Storage systems, Senior Design, and even did some of my own projects on the side. I quickly learned that I was able to handle multiple tasks at the same time and have since decided to pick-up the various programming languages and skills listed in my resume. Just after graduation, in January of 2014, I accepted a position at Fiserv, leaving the state department and Geek Squad to enter a profession in my field of study, where I am a VB.NET and C#.NET web developer. In my time at Fiserv, I have learned more about the best practices of programming than I thought was possible in such a short amount of time. I was selected as one of 3 developers to design and develop an internal MVC application to improve an already existing internal process. I selected C# and quickly picked up its differences from VB.NET and C++. WCF messaging, Dependency injection, TDD, Moq, LINQ, Typescript, and Angular data binding are just a few of the practices that I learned during this project and I found it easy to carry these over into other projects. When I am not at work I spend most of my time refereeing soccer. During the summer of 2014 I was one of 16 Nebraskans selected to officiate the USSF Midwest Regional tournament in Dayton, Ohio. After my performance at the regional tournament I was inducted into the Midwest chapter for NCAA officials.
